‘Salvation is of the Lord.’-Jonah 2:9
Salvation is the work of God. It is He alone who quickens the soul dead in trespasses and sins, and it is He also who maintains the soul in its spiritual life. He is both ‘Alpha and Omega.’ ‘Salvation is of the Lord.’ If we have grace, it is God’s… gift to us; if we hold on in a consistent life, it is because He upholds us with His hand.
We do nothing whatever towards our own preservation, except what God Himself first does in us. Whatever we have, all our goodness is of the Lord alone. However, if we sin, that is our own doing; but if we act rightly, that is of God, wholly and completely in us.
Do we live before men a consecrated life? It is not us, but Jesus Christ who lives in us. Are we sanctified? We did not cleanse ourselfs: God’s Holy Spirit sanctifies us ~ The blood of our Jesus. Do we grow in knowledge and wisdom? The great instructor our Father God teaches us if we have an open ear to Him. We find in Jesus all that we want; but we find in ourselfs nothing but sin and misery.
Jesus ~ ‘He alone is our rock and our salvation.’ Do we feed on the Word? That Word would be no food for us unless the Lord made it food for our soul, and helped us to feed upon it. Do we live on the manna which comes down from heaven? What is that manna but Jesus Christ himself incarnate, whose body and whose blood we eat and drink.
Are we continually receiving fresh portions of strength? Where do we gather our might? Our help comes from heaven’s hills: without Jesus we can do nothing. As a branch cannot bring forth fruit except it abide in the vine, no more can we, except we abide in Him. What Jonah learned inside the whale, Lord let us learn it as well for: ‘Salvation is of the Lord!!!
